Parallels and Convergences

Postgraduate course

Course description

Supplementary semester information

Focus area(s): PERFORMANCE / TIME-BASED MEDIA

Module leader: LISE TOVESDATTER SKOU

Included HMS: N/A

Focusing on the theme of ALWAYS MORE THAN ONE – RELATIONAL ECOLOGIES AND CO-BECOMING, this module develops a framework for reflection on different forms of practice and how these can intertwine and resonate. We will work within the fields of performance, video and sound and those with backgrounds in other disciplines are welcome to integrate methods and materials of their choice.

We will investigate how different forms of practice can contribute to each other, and what that means for creating an artwork. The module includes a Butoh workshop, guest presentations, group sessions, readings of relevant texts, and the development of new work based on the module's theme and content.

You are encouraged to have taken the HMS training sessions in video and sound prior to the beginning of the modules.

Objectives and Content

Two parallel lines travel in sync yet never meet; two lines converge at a fixed point only to continue in opposite directions. This project-based module explores the nature of relationships, proximities, and intersections - whether formal, social, or cultural - and investigates how form, space, thought, and power are constructed through the various ways things are situated in relation to one another.

PRO modules are designed to enrich your artist development (as explored in the ART modules) through activating skills, connecting communities of practice, and investigating disciplinary territories. PRO modules allow you to focus on a specific project critically connected to your own practice within a context established by the module leader(s).
