This project is aiming at improving quality and equity in emergency obstetric and neonatal care in Addis Ababa. The ultimate goal is to reduce the burden of maternal and neonatal mortality. The interventions which will be used in the project are hands on skills training using low cost and low tech simulation technologies developed by Lærdal foundation.Ìý

Six public health centers will be randomly selected for the interventions and all health professionals working in the maternity wards of these health facilities will receive the skills training.

Both qualitative and quantitative research methods will be employed for assessing the baseline status, the interventions and for monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes.

This University of Bergen and Lærdal foundation funded project will be implemented from December 2012- February 2014 in three phases.

Alemnesh Mirkuzie is Post doctor at the Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care / Centre for International Health at ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´. She is working on health systems challenges related to maternal and neonatal health in Ethiopia.
