About the research project
How may illustration communicate profound human issues considered unrepresented or non-representable? 芦Illuminating the Non-Representable禄 is an artistic research project coordinated and led by former professor of illustration, Hilde Kramer, at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen, Norway.
A central topic has been the representation and the narratives of 鈥渦s鈥 and 鈥渢he others鈥 in cross-disciplinary projects. Participants from different disciplines have explored the transformative role of illustration in contemporary communication. This project consists of three symposia and three illuminations (three illustration/design projects exploring different aspects of communication challenges). The artistic research has unfolded in the symbiosis of the symposia and the projects.
There are four branches of the project: Hvis dette var et menneske, Book of Remembrance, Sound as Illustration and The Face between Us. Illuminating the Non-Representable is Exploring artistic, ethical and authorial challenges in research through illustration (IN-R).
