About the research group
The research group at the Grieg Academy gathers composers, performers, researchers, and students to explore and advance contemporary practices in music creation. Its work is centred on a set of shared ambitions that guide the group’s activities, collaborations, and academic direction. These goals are outlined below, reflecting the group’s commitment to artistic development, interdisciplinary exchange, and research-based teaching. • The group seeks to discover, study, undertake and present the next developments in music composition in the world today.
• A forum to share ideas, ask questions and receive feedback relating to the field of music composition with invited guests from Norway and around the world.
• A forum for PhD candidates to present their work and receive feedback
• A point of departure for research-based teaching (inclusion of bachelor and masters students in research group meetings).
• A point of connection between individuals, disciplines and institutions at ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and internationally and between the fields of music, art, design, humanities and sciences.
• A platform for creating projects with colleagues at ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and beyond (Sounding Philosophy, Remembering Lost Music, Conference on Composition and Philosophy at the Wissenschafts Kolleg in Berlin, Recording Project with the Arditti String Quartet, Concept Store Quartet) work with IRCAM and the SWR Experimentalstudio. Involvement in MishMash and international exchanges with Liszt Academy, Budapest, Cambridge University, UK and Gustav Mahler Private University, Klagenfurt, Austria.
• A way to foster and plan future publications and research grants with colleagues at ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and beyond.
