About the research group

The Biorecognition Group studies the relationship between molecular structure and function to understand human health and disease. We use a combination of and techniques, within the fields of , biochemistry and . We aim to develop new therapeutic options for inborn errors of metabolism, in particular and neurotransmitter disorders (e.g. ).

The Biorecognition Group constitutes one of four groups/labs in the research unit.

Vision

We want to contribute to the understanding of how structure determines recognition, function and regulation within selected biomolecular networks.

Using an interdisciplinary and translational approach -integrating experimental and computational methods - we explore structural, functional, energetic and evolutionary aspects of the interaction of proteins with small organic compounds, other proteins and membranes. We have a special interest on the aromatic amino acid hydroxylases and aim to develop novel therapeutic approaches for correction of associated metabolic and neurological malfunctions.
