CET Lunch: The role of small scale vegetable production in sustainable food transitions

Welcome to this CET Lunch seminar with Anna Birgitte Milford, researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy.

Small-scale vegetable producers, including so-called 芦market gardeners禄, employ production methods and sales channels that diverge from those of the mainstream food system. These initiatives are typically organic, diverse, use local resources as input factors, and they sell produce through short supply chains such as farmers鈥 markets. Their potential to contribute to a sustainable food transition will be explored through the lens of my previous research on small-scale horticulture and the new NFR-project 鈥淪mallHort鈥.

About the speaker

Anna Birgitte Milford has a PhD in Economics from NHH and works for the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research in Bergen. Her research is mainly concerned with environmentally sustainable food production, consumption and sales channels. Her scientific and report publication themes include: organic and pesticide reduced food, fruits and vegetables, plant-based/climate friendly diets, urban/peri-urban agriculture and small-scale horticulture.
